FUTURE OF ZERO EMISSIONS HAS BECOME A DAILY REALITY IN EUROPE
Midcat is A Spanish gas pipeline with the main objective of transporting liquified natural gas from Alger to Europe (French connection).
This Gas Pipeline could be uses in a near future for transporting Green Hydrogen from the Spanish Plants to Europe.
Our Company mission, vision and objective, coordinating and participating in external Energy engineering projects to get shipping and Yachting industries decarbonization (inter alia) and the Low-cost green hydrogen Production using Onshore photovoltaic and Offshore Wind renewable Energy.
There are Two Possible options (by the moment):
Option 1: LNG-Separated-GH2. Each gas in different gas pipelines. More expensive. (Video 1, Time 1: 56:58, Presentation Hydrogen as energy carrier comparison with gas and electricity by Geir Agustsson).
Option 2: (Our favorite) LNG (80%-95%)-Blended-GH2 (5%-20%) in the same pipeline. Cheaper option. For Example, a traditional kitchen might accept a 10% mix of these gases without requiring modifications, being able, according to some studies, to reach 20% with minor modifications. Green hydrogen can be recovered using membrane technology or transported in great amounts using GH2-fuelled Gas Carriers, to be used as fuel for the different means of transport and power generation both Industrial and Civilian uses by means of Fuel Cells close to the reclassification Plants (Now available in South Korea). GREEN HYDROGEN PRODUCTION

The first Hydrogen plant in Spain was inaugurated in March 2022 at Majorca (Spain), estimating a production of 300 tonnes per year.

Green Hydrogen can be used in fuel cells to generate electricity. Fuel cells produce electricity by combining hydrogen and oxygen atoms. The hydrogen reacts with oxygen across an electrochemical cell similar to that of a battery to produce electricity, water, and small amounts of heat.
Although the supply of natural gas must be guaranteed for domestic use in a long term, the use of fuel cells for industrial electricity generation need to be a reality in the years to feed electric and plug-in vehicles (The European Commission sets the end of the sale of combustion cars by 2035) and desalination plants (765 in spain, 360 are desalination plants for seawater and 405 for brackish water ).

USING gREEN HYDROGEN AS MARINE FUEL
GREEN Hydrogen is the best option for shipping/Yachting decarbonization, well using hybrid engines LNG-GH2 (BeHydro engines are now available in the market), well using fuel cells.
According to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) decarbonization target for shipping between 2030 and 2050 to cost over $1 trillion = 1,000,000,000,000 USD.
Hydrogen Marine Engines are now available in the market thanks to BeH2ydro (Anglo Belgium Corporation).

GH2/LNG COMBINED REGASIFICATION PLANTS
Regasification is a process of converting Liquified natural Gas (LNG) at -162 °C temperature back to natural gas at atmospheric temperature. In Spain there are six plants active (Mugardos, Sagunto, Bilbao, Barcelona, Cartagena, Huelva), plus El Musel. With seven in total, Spain is the country with the most regasification plants in Europe.
Our proposal is, the operation in 2050 of these plants works 50%LNG-50GH2%:
To achieve this objective, the storage of Green Hydrogen shall commence in next years. We select Option 2 (Blending LNG-GH2) separating hydrogen afterwards by means of a membrane for fuelling Industrial vehicles, Public Transport, cars, ships, Yachts, and Small Crafts and planes. Batteries option recommended for small cars and boats and bikes.
